Team DougOuts 2025 ALS Walk page - 11th anniversary edition
Ok, there are less than 2 weeks until we Walk. Please meet us around 8-8:15. That is mainly so we can get a team photo with everyone there. We have a couple people who will be there but can't walk. If you want to stay and wait for us to complete the circuit, please do so. You will be first in line for a free pizza.
We would love to have you join us at Joe's BBQ. Joe's is located in Gilbert's Heritage District. It's only 2 miles south of 60 on Gilbert Road.
If you are unable to join us, we always welcome your prayers

I am getting another late start in getting information out about the Walk. Just to put this out there, ALS stinks! I have been told that I look great for having ALS for over 11 years!. I guess I don?t look good by myself, but I will take anything that improves my ?looks?. That is why I have a beard, so you can?t see my everyday face!
I get so worried about donations, but I have lost so many friends which reminds me that there are so many issues people face in their lives. Karen and I appreciate your love for us as we deal with my daily battle with the ravages of ALS. Karen and I want you to feel comfortable giving where you feel led to donate.
You don't have to donate to join us. We love it when people walk arm in arm with us. The encouragement it gives us is more important than you could imagine.
We will welcome you on Team DougOuts with open arms. We still appreciate any donations towards ALSAZ which helps those of us who live and suffer with ALS in Arizona. ALL of your donations stay in Arizona.
Bottom line, I want to
CELEBRATE!!!
Celebrate my 11 years fighting this monster and loving every single day that I get to do that. There have been some significant advances in these past 10 years. I?ve been directly involved with some of them as a patient and/or as an advisor, mentor or advisory board member.
ALS Walk 2025!! New Shirt info!!
To order the current Walk shirt, please contact Karen on Facebook, Instagram, text or email. If you are wondering about how the Walk shirts came to be, our what follows is a brief overview of how they came to be.
When I was diagnosed and decided to participate in the ALS Walk for a Cure, I made the commitment to create a new walk shirt every five years that I am still living with ALS. At that time I was progressing whether my breathing and physical abilities had diminished significantly. It didn't look like I would reach that 5 year number. But that changed when I participated in a clinical trial. My SVC & FVC jumped from 56% to 92% after a month on the trial drug. Back to the Walk shirts.
Our first two shirts were designed by Jon, our youngest son. Our current shirt was designed by our daughter, Nicole. There are actually two shirts, but one is only for people with ALS.
Shirt 1 - the shirt design had the image of me from the first year I played baseball.
The colors were an homage to my hometown Washington Redskins and our local university, the ASU Sun Devils. The shirt was gold and the image was burgundy/maroon, the colors of the respective teams.
It just so happened that the Redskins played the Cardinals on the same weekend as the ALS Walk.. We had a great turnout. A bunch of our friends from points west of Washington, DC. There were also a bunch of my high school friends who came out for the Walk and the football game. That was pretty darn cool.
The added benefit of the gold shirts were that you could easily see them on the field and along the Walk route. It was also the first time I was interviewed on TV. It was the year of the Ice Bucket Challenge so there was a lot of interests in our disease. I figured that would be the only time I would be recorded so I didn't record it off of our DVR.
Shirt 2 - this shirt was a denim blue with white printing. The Doug Outs was in cursive, I guess that will be lost on kids today. The cursive was in the style of my older hometown, Atlanta, GA and the Real Thing, Coca Cola! It's a really nice looking shirt and we can make some of anyone's is interested.
Following the Walk, we go to Joe's BBQ in old town Gilbert. Please join us if you can.
If you still need to register use this link. If you have trouble, message us and we can help you.
